What is hydrotherapy?Hydrotherapy - or water therapy - uses water to stimulate the body's own healing powers in the treatment of disease. Different treatments involve varying uses of water - hot, cold, ice, and steam. Hydrotherapy treatments include using water temperature, water motion, water content, and the internal uses of water. At Kneading You we use Saunas, Steam Baths, Wet Tables, Hydrocollators, Hungarian Wellness Mud® and Paraffin Hydrothermal therapy uses its temperature effects, as in hot baths, saunas, wraps, etc. The healing properties of hydrotherapy is based on its mechanical and/or thermal effects. It uses the body's natural reaction to hot and cold stimuli, protracted application of heat, pressure exerted and to the sensation it gives. The nerves carry impulses felt at the skin deeper into the body. There, these impulses, are instrumental in stimulating the immune system, influencing the production of stress hormones, invigorating the circulation and digestion, encouraging blood flow, and lessening pain sensitivity. As a rule, heat sedates and soothes the body, slowing down the activity of internal organs. Cold, on the other hand, stimulates and invigorates, increasing internal activity.
